Describe your show in one sentence.
Legoland is a public service talk given by two home-schooled siblings from Elysium, Saskatchewan about determination, true love, and McDonald’s.
Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description of your show?
Penny and Ezra have left their tiny community for the first time and go on a cross-continental quest to meet Penny’s favourite pop icon… earning them a restraining order. Penny’s had a year to put together this flashy presentation for Miss Peachery, her social worker. With the help of Ezra and a metric f***-ton of props from their basement, the two kids weave through their whole journey, revealing the lessons they learned about true love.
Can you describe the two main characters in Legoland, Penny and Ezra?
Yeah! Penny is a thoughtful, head-strong chatterbox and nothing will get in her way. She’s got a tough outer shell, but a heart of gold, and will go to the ends of the earth to make her opinion heard. Ezra, on the other hand, is somewhat of a silent genius. He is essentially Penny’s stage manager for their presentation, but he occasionally slides in his quirky interjections when he’s not focused on his VERY ‘special effects.’
Why did you want to bring Legoland to the Fringe? What do you think audiences will take away from Legoland?
It’s kinda the perfect Fringe powder-keg. It’s startlingly funny with a beautiful heartbeat, and it moves at a helluva clip. It is theatricality through the eyes of the desperately untheatrical.
Anything else you want audiences to know about the show?
Remember Ride The Cyclone? That smash-hit Canadian musical that came to the Citadel a couple years ago? Legoland is the prequel to Cyclone – they’re the first two shows of Jacob Richmond’s Uranium Teen Scream Trilogy. Cooool!
