An interview with Kenneth Brown.

Describe your show in one sentence.

The show is about Joan of Arc, her stunning achievements and shocking betrayal.

Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description of your show?

Joan of Arc talked to angels, convinced the French army to put her at its head, defeated the English, who had never lost a battle in France under Henry V.  She inspired her countrymen, fought at the head of armies, and had a King crowned. All this before her 19th birthday.

Joan of Arc is such an iconic, storied historical figure. What is it like to take on this larger-than life figure in this show?

Part of the challenge when writing about saints is to avoid thudding into awe or preachiness. I’ve tried to avoid this by making her human, nd making the other characters in the play modern, ironic, and comic.

Your press release says Mad Fantastic Maid of God: Joan of Arc will leave audiences “gobsmacked by the plain facts”. Can you dive into this a bit more? What is one of the facts you think audiences will be surprised to find out in this show.

Joan, a woman, led an army to victory at the age of 17. In 1429!

Anything else you want audiences to know about the show?

This is history seen through a high-speed kaleidoscope, with passionate, energetic, and funny performances by two brilliant young actors, Melissa Blackwood and Ellie Heath.

The 36th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is August 17 – 27. Get your tickets at tickets.fringetheatre.ca starting August 9.
