Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description?

A woman and her dead lover meet in dreams. A hilarious and utterly surreal physical comedy that questions the nature of reality..

Without spoiling anything, can you tell us a bit about the illusions and surrealism you create in Falling Awake? 

We use a wide range of theatrical tools including mime, magic, physical theatre gags, shadow puppetry, mask, object manipulation, custom lighting, perspective shifting sets, and quirky prop design to wrap together a surreal, dreamlike and reality bending experience. Much like a dream you never know what will happen next.

How did you and Matthew “Poki” McCorkle create Falling Awake?

Being that we were on other sides of the world when we began, we started with drawings, images, and “seeds” of ideas. We took these ideas to the studio at an Artist in Residency at Tanzzentrale in Nürnberg Germany. Here we had plenty of free play with movement and exploration “scores” based on some of our ideas and also with an openness to what might come. Back in America at a Residency at The Look Out Arts Quarry in Bellingham WA we began to weave it all together. We tried out some “bits” at the local events and cabaret’s in Bellingham and in Vancouver BC. Some bits grew, others were left behind. The theme we are exploring is influenced by our own often-long-distanced relationship. Spending so much time apart, it is hard to know what is real, what is imagined, what is human love without the human. This show tries to answer that.

We are grateful and honored by the tremendous audience support for this show this Summer. Now on our sixth Fringe Festival we are so excited to share this with Edmonton’s audience.
