An interview with Jamie Northan.
Describe your show in five words.
Live. Improvised. Action Movie.
Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description?
We create an original action movie in an hour based on audience suggestions and their choice of villain. Two actors playing all the roles, doing all the fights, car chases and the sexual tension.
What drove the collaboration between Jamie Northan and Quinn Contini?
Quinn is so fun to watch on stage and an incredible talent to work with. We’ve been improvising together for almost ten years and this show is a chance for us to put that experience and trust to the test. When there’s only one other person on stage with you creating an entire play on the spot, you need that experience and trust and we definitely have it.
Being an improvised show, how does the audience contribute to Kill Hard?
At the beginning of each show we ask the audience to contribute what elements they think are crucial to have in an action movie. Then, we audition a series of villains for them to chose from. After that, we take over and create a full length, completely improvised play that emulates many of your favourite cheesy action movies.
In your media release you mention many of the greats: Arnold, Stallone, and Bruce Willis. What movies, actors or characters are you drawing inspiration from to create Kill Hard?
For me, I’m a big Jason Stathem fan. I appreciate how pure to the genre his movies typically are. He’s almost always a former militant, cop, or secret agent who’s forced to come to someone’s defence against evil. Quinn is a fan of the more traditional martial arts movies where pride, vengeance and honour are the motive for kicking butts.
Anything else you want audiences to know about the show?
Yes. We think you should check out more than one of our shows and we’ve built in incentives to do so… Fri, Aug 19 at 11:59pm we have some amazing special guests. Chase Padgett, Stacey Hallal, Chris Craddock, Jacob Banigan, and Mark Meer are joining the fun. So, come see Quinn and I as a duo doing it all, then come back for the insanity of midnight guest extravaganza!
