Edmonton Downstage | 29.09.2014

  • I hope everyone had an amazing Alberta Culture Days!
  • The submission deadline for Walterdale’s annual new play development program, From Cradle to Stage, is October 1st.
  • Walterdale is also beginning to book auditions for its February play, Jeffery.
  • The deadline to apply to audition for Punctuate! Theatre’s Suburban Motel Series is today!
  • The Citadel’s first show of the season, Kim’s Convenience, opened last week. Check out these reviews, in addition to mine:
  • The I Don’t Get It Dance podcast posted episode 3 of their second season ,where they talk about An Unlearned Human Language.
  • Alberta Ballet’s Don Quixote comes to Edmonton this weekend. I saw Don Quixotein Calgary this past weekend and loved it. I wasn’t familiar with the story, but if you’re like me, be aware that the ballet isn’t the whole 2400 pages of the book, but rather one of the vignettes of the don’s journey. I really enjoyed the ballet, with it’s moments of cheekiness and tender beauty. And, of course, the costumes were gorgeous. I usually see ballet once per season, and every time I’m amazed at the dancer’s ability to communicate so articulately without words. I hear the I Don’t Get it Dance podcast is also planning on checking it out, so look out for Paul and Fawnda to share their thoughts on an upcoming episode.
