Describe your show in five words.
Romantic, musical, happy ending, awesome!
Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description?
Our show is a modern, gender-reversed, musical twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Austin Bennet is an uptight greeting card writer in New York City. He meets a flighty photographer who throws his very structured life off-course. His brother Jeff, Marcy’s best friend Diana, along with the NYC Man and NYC Woman drive this romantic comedy that takes place in some quintessential NYC spots: bars, parks and coffee shops. They learn to accept and love someone else not in spite of their faults, but because of them.
I’ve seen a previous production of I Love You Because and absolutely loved the story. Why did you want to present this show?
We felt like this was a very interesting twist on the original Pride and Prejudice story. It’s light-hearted, young and fun, but also has a poignant side to it that I think audiences will enjoy. We love that it welcomes the audience in with a smart, funny script and fantastic music.
Why do you think the story line of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice still resonates so well with modern audiences?
This story resonates with people young and old; it’s a story about understanding and learning to accept others despite their differences-which I think is a theme that is universal. Everyone wants to be understood and accepted and loved. And of course, everyone loves a bit of drama too! I also believe that people are interested in the relationship dynamics between men and women, and Pride and Prejudice is one of the best, classic examples out there.
Anything else you want audiences to know about the show?
This is a fun, light-hearted show where you will leave feeling happy and entertained!
Bonus question: Any names you want to drop who have been involved in your show (Edmonton arts people or otherwise)?
Our Director, Adam Kuss is the current Artistic Director at the Walterdale. We would also like to mention our Musical Director Robert Bradford. He’s been involved in several shows over many years, and it’s been invaluable having him as part of our family. We’d also like to give a shout out to Barb Mah and Gail Olmstead. They were our teachers at the Foote Theatre School Bootcamp where most of us met the first time, and we thank them for bringing us together.

Hot, Hot, Hot. This was one hot show. But the backstage crew provided both manual and electric fans for the audience. The venue is a challenge, but the cast made the best of it. For anyone who didn’t like the prop changes, well, you just didn’t get it. It was part of the charm, stupid… On stage, the cast went for it… and there were more than a few hot scenes between the characters as they negotiated figure outing how to find someone to love and all the places and things we do when we do that (drinks, coffee, bars, coffee shops)… along with all the quirks and obsessions that go along with that…just because. Over the course of the show you definitely got to relate to each of the persons situation, and the one liners, from the kind of not the fastest guy on the block hunk hooked up with the sexy accountant girl, and the beautiful kind of exoticexual girl that finally nails the MBA poetic lead guy.. well over the course of 2 hours… it all ended happily ever after. Oh. And it’s a musical. And they all can sing…listen for the actuary song, especially good…
