Describe your show in five words.
A sexy subversive clown romp

Okay, now that we’re intrigued… what’s the longer description?
After endless years of marriage the Fandangos are desperate to infuse some passion into their wilting relationship. Lost, afraid and confused, they blunder their way through a night of ridiculous erotic antics and kinky desires. Can the secrets of the ancient Sama Kutra save their love life?

Tell us a bit about why The Sama Kutra is done as a clown show. In some ways is it “safer” to broach the topic of “healthy sexual relationships in an over-sexualized society” using the clown theatrical form?
Clown lives in a dream state reality which allows both the performers and the audience to go further into our fears and desires.

Your set features a heart-shaped bed – quite a striking image and a lot of associations with it! Why choose that particular style of bed for this show?
We thought a kidney shaped bed wouldn’t fit within our message 😉

Anything else you want audiences to know about the show?
Preview audiences have said it’s “High Octane Clown” “Delightful” and “Powerful”

Bonus question: Any names you want to drop who have been involved in your show (Edmonton arts people or otherwise)?
The show was created during a residency at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance and was directed by Michael Kennard (Mump and Smoot).

The 33rd Edmonton International Fringe is August 14 – 24. I’ll be previewing shows up until the Fringe starts. Want your show to appear on After the House Lights? Email jennamarynowski@gmail.com.
